A private reading

Working on something ambitious? Send us your paper.

Send a manuscript, preprint, or proposal to our desk and we return a considered Cernen reading — the decisions your work is facing, the evidence behind each, and where we would look next. We read each one ourselves, unhurried and in confidence.

     Decision intelligence for research

Know what your research should do next.

You did the work. The hours you don’t have go to finding where it belongs — the journal, the grant, the collaborator, the call. Cernen makes that effortless: your work turned into evidence-backed options for what to do next, with the evidence behind each.

That doesn’t look like an email — check for a missing @.

We open Cernen slowly. We’ll send a note when a place is ready for you.

Access is by invitation. No noise — a considered note when your place opens.

    The method beneath every reading
    Characterize Verify Match Assess Decide
    The real bottleneck

The work was never the hard part. Making it count is.

Teaching, admin, the endless tabs. A paper left in proceedings, a grant half-written, a result nobody has seen. The battle is time — and the work you already did isn’t paying off the way it should.

Cernen doesn’t add to the pile. It names the one decision in front of you, shows the evidence behind it, and leaves the choice to you. It lives on the decision points — the transitions between the boxes, not inside them. It doesn’t do your research; it helps you decide what to do with it.

    Most research AI

“Here are some papers. Here’s a summary. Here’s a draft. These journals look like good fits.” Plausible — but you still have to decide what’s actually true and what to do about it.

    Cernen

“Here’s the decision in front of you, the evidence that licenses it, what’s still uncertain — and the call is yours.” It narrows the decision space instead of adding to your reading pile.

    One finder · every opportunity

Everything your work could open, in one place.

Where to publish is where most researchers start — and where Cernen proves itself first. But your work opens more than a journal. One finder reads your work and surfaces every door it could open next.

    Where it belongs

    The right venue

The journal, conference, or venue that actually fits — eligible and suitable, on the evidence, not a keyword.

    What will fund it

    Funding that fits

The grants, fellowships, and prizes you’re genuinely competitive for — and which requirements aren’t met yet.

    Who to do it with

    Collaborators

Co-authors, mentors, and partners in adjacent fields who fill the gaps your work leaves open.

    Where you’re wanted

    Positions & mobility

Postdocs, fellowships, residencies, and the routes worth the week it takes to apply — sequenced for you.

    What could win

    Competitions & prizes

The competition worth entering, stress-tested against the judging baseline before you commit a month to it.

    Worth protecting

    A patent-safe read

Whether an idea is worth protecting — assessed without exposing it before you’re ready to disclose.

    Evidence before recommendation

A recommendation you can defend — not just one that sounds plausible.

A generic AI leaps to “these look like good fits.” Cernen asks the harder question first: what evidence licenses us to say that? Every reading runs on one honest chain.

    I

    What the evidence says

Observed, sourced, span-grounded. Silence in the record is never read as absence.

    II

    What Cernen infers

Assessment kept visibly apart from observation — inference never masquerades as fact.

    III

    What stays uncertain

The unknowns are named — never smoothed over with a fabricated fit score or acceptance probability.

    IV

    What you decide

The licensed claim comes to you. Cernen makes the next decision clearer; you make it.

Why shouldn’t I just ask ChatGPT?

Because Cernen is built to make research decisions defensible, not merely plausible.

The answer isn’t “our model is better.” It’s the discipline: observation → evidence → assessment → licensed claim → your decision. It gives orderings, not invented probabilities; it refuses arbitrary scores, unsupported negatives, and discovery sources dressed up as authority — so the call you make holds up when someone asks how you reached it.

    Two ways in

For the researcher, and for the institution behind them.

The same evidence discipline, at two scales — one decision at a time, or a whole portfolio of them.

    For the researcher

Know what your research should do next.

Begin with one question — what are you working on? — and Cernen finds whether the useful next decision is the question, the venue, the funding, a collaborator, or the patent-safe read.

    • A question, manuscript, project, or invention turned into evidence-backed options
    • The evidence behind every recommendation, and what remains uncertain
    • You stay in control — Cernen narrows the decision; the call is yours
    For the institution

    Research intelligence for better decisions.

Many readings become something larger: a live view of where research sits, where it is stuck, and where institutional attention should go.

    • Which work is publication-ready, and which matches the funding open now
    • Where the capability gaps, IP candidates, and collaboration openings are
    • An intelligence layer connecting research evidence to research decisions
    The Society

More than a tool. A society for people who make things.

Cernen is built as a club, not a queue. Membership is a quiet mark of standing — a way of belonging to something that takes your work seriously and makes the next move feel effortless. Inventing has never been easier; belonging should feel like grace.

    i.

    A guide, freely given

A public guide to the research domains — the map before the membership, offered to everyone. The finest houses share the guide and keep the table.

    ii.

    A room worth being in

People doing serious work, and the recommendations that pass between them. Standing you can feel — the badge, not the busywork.

    iii.

    Effortless by design

The machine does the searching; you keep the taste and the final word. Mastery worn lightly — the ease is the point.

    Questions

    The honest ones people ask.

Do you really read every paper yourselves?
Yes — for now, by hand and in confidence. A private reading is a human courtesy while we open access slowly; it’s also how we keep the standard high. Send only work you’re comfortable sharing: a preprint, a draft, or an abstract with a link.
Does Cernen do my research for me?
No — that’s the point. Plenty of tools help you produce. Cernen helps you decide what to do with what you’ve produced: whether the question is ready, where it belongs, whether it qualifies, whether it’s worth protecting. It narrows the decision; the call stays yours.
How is this different from asking ChatGPT?
A general model gives a plausible answer. Cernen is built to give a defensible one: it keeps what the evidence says apart from what it infers and what stays uncertain, preserves provenance, and refuses fabricated precision like arbitrary fit scores or acceptance probabilities.
    What does early access cost?
Early access and a first reading are offered without charge while we open slowly. Researchers spend attention, not money, to begin; institutions engage later on their own terms. We’ll always tell you plainly before anything is asked of you.
Is it for individual researchers or institutions?
Both, at two scales. Researchers use it one decision at a time. Institutions gain an intelligence layer over many decisions — what’s publication-ready, what matches funding, where the gaps and IP candidates are. Same evidence discipline underneath.

Make your next research decision clearer and defensible.

Send us a paper, or request early access. Either way, you’ll see what Cernen means by “evidence before recommendation.”
